Forest of Dean Girls 1-6 Bishops Cleeve Colts


MID-table Forest of Dean Girls struggled against leaders Bishops Cleeve in their last home league game of the season

The club, which is based at Ellwood FC, is a feeder for the Forest of Dean Ladies and is the only girls’ side in the area which plays in a league.

Nya Morse got the goal for the home side in the first half but they went into the break trailing 1-5.

In the second half the Foresters put up more determined resistance and also created a few chances but the game ended with a 1-6 victory for the visitors.

The club has been running for three years and is helping meet the demand for competitive football for girls in the area.

There is also an under-12s side which hopes to joins the league next year and there are plans to develop an under-10s team.

Becky Saunders, who helps run the club, said: “There is a lot of interest in girls’ and women’s football in the Forest.”

The club trains every Monday evening at Lydney Leisure between 7.15pm and 8.15pm and will continue throughout the summer.
