Reg Davis Memorial Cup

Newent Town 2-0 Harrow Hill

GOALS from Lee Allen and Liam Halliday secured the win for Newent Town in this all-Forest final.

With neither side in the hunt for league honours this season, the cup, named in honour of a former stalwart of the Gloucestershire Northern Senior League, was a chance to get some silverware.

Harrow Hill actually lost their semi-final – 2-0 to Stroud Harriers – but their opponents were disqualified for fielding an ineligible player.

The goals, in the game at Lydney’s ground, came either side of half-time to give Newent the spoils.

Newent captain Hayden Rust was presented with the cup by Northern Senior League vice-chairman and life member Roger Sansom.

Newent were not the only local side to get their hands on a trophy this weekend – Caldicot Town Ladies finished an incredible season with a win in the final of the South Wales FA Cup.

Six weeks ago the side secured promotion for the second time in two seasons and on Sunday they beat Dinas Powys 4-0 to add the cup to this season’s honours.
