A MUM and her young son proved fighting fit when they scooped a double award at a karate presentation ceremony.

Kathryn Wakefield landed the Association Effort in Training Award and son Harvey the Lydney Karate Club student shield at the Bukindai Awards night at Newnham-on-Severn.

The trophies were presented by karate expert Shihan Chris Rudge, 7th Dan.

Other Lydney club members to triumph included Matt James who took the Karate-Do Cup and Alfie Teague Littlefair, who landed the Coleford shield. Gloucester shields also went to Euan Cooke and Maisy Rodderick.

Lydney Karate Club trains on Tuesday nights at Whitecross Leisure Centre, with beginner sessions from 7pm to 8pm, and advanced sessions from 8pm to 9pm.

Mr Rudge also takes sessions with Cinderford Karate Club at the Heywood Sports Centre on Mondays at the same times, plus a session on Thursday from 7.15pm to 8.15pm.
