SOME 39 anglers took part in the inaugural George Bond Memorial Trophy at Cannop Ponds on Sunday.

The competition, named in honour of the late father of Yorkley Angling Club’s water bailiff, Jan Norris, raised £466 for Macmillan Nurses, who help families affected by cancer.

The winner, Matt Peters, landed 37lb 8oz of fish, beating Pete Cornock with 19lb 6oz and Chris Davis with 9lb 8oz, who were second and third respectively.

The competitors were split into four sections and the section winners were Geoff Mason, Luke Burge, Jan Norris and Bernard Frazer.

Yorkley Angling Club chairman Terry McKenzie said: “It was a brilliant day and we raised a lot of money for Macmillan.

“We had a very good turnout and I would particularly like to thank Jan Norris who worked so hard going around local businesses to get raffle prizes.”

The club is organising an angling taster day at Forest Hill Golf Club in July.
