Local derby win for Westbury

WESTBURY Seconds made the short journey back up the A48 with 20 points in the bag thanks to a five-wicket win at neighbours Newnham.

The visitors won the toss and put Newnham into bat with Aubrey Stubbs their top scorer with 32 while fellow opener Reuben Collin posted 26.

Stubbs was bowled by Rich Edginton who returned the best bowling figures of the day with 22-3 off nine overs which included three maidens.

Ian Broady, Jason Saunders and Ian Nice all claimed two wickets with Broady dismissing Kam Patel caught and bowled.

Top scorer with the bat was Westbury’s Chris Wayman who scored 56 before being caught off the bowling of Robert Cole.

The next highest scorer for Westbury was Jonathan Coleman who was bowled for 20 by Aubrey Stubbs, one of the Newnham man’s two wickets.

Newnham’s Reuben Elliott, who had been dismissed by Rich Edginton, returned the compliment by bowling the Westbury opener for seven.

Ed Boait was run out but Gary Morgan and Ian Nice saw Westbury home being undefeated for 22 and 13 respectively.

Elsewhere in the division, Parkend beat Andoversford by 47 runs and Forest Exiles lost by 99 runs to St Phillips North.
