SILVER medals for five competitors were the highlights of Wye Gymnastics Club’s visit to the Gemau Cymru 2017 event in Cardiff.
The Caldicot outfit’s Lucy Davies and Erin Brady finished second overall in the novice women’s pairs at the acrobatic gymnastics competition.
And Emily Howells, Jessica Hawke and Bethan Pearce gave fantastic performances with high level skills to take silvers in both their balance and dynamic routines.
Trios of Seren Williams, Millie Blythe and Bethan Peacock, plus Maddy Jones, Emma Yapp and Kelsey Howells also competed in the novice women’s groups category and performed lovely clean routines which left them just out of the medal positions in fourth and fifth respectively.
Heather Dent and Carys Dolbel also finished just 0.2 points off bronze in fourth in the novice pairs.
Gemau Cymru is a bilingual signature event for young people in the Welsh sporting calendar enhancing the performance pathway of Olympic, Commonwealth and Paralympic sports.
It provides opportunities for talented young athletes to compete in a high profile multi-sport event while experiencing an athlete village environment and the gymnasts thoroughly enjoyed the experience with some great results.
Coach Sue Howells commented: “This has been a wonderful competition for all of our gymnasts which has allowed them to push themselves to the next level and I am very proud of all of their performances.
“A huge thanks must go to the Urdd and Welsh Gymnastics for putting on such a well organised event.”
