I FELT compelled to write in response to the article in last week's Review regarding the wild boar and mess they make whilst foraging for food.
I am saddened that Mr Morgan at Winner Garage feels so angry at having to view the ground the boar feed on as it is so close to his garage.
He really ought to feel privileged to have a business right on the edge of Forestry woodland.?After all, it is he who is almost encroaching on the wildlife's backyard, not the other way round.
Unlike most of us, the boar do not jump into their Skoda and nip down to Tesco for the weekly shop – they have to forage and indeed have every entitlement to do so in order to survive. I, for the first time, recently had the
honour whilst walking my dogs of coming across two grown sows with their litter. My dogs sat quietly and watched, as I did, captivated as they foraged and fed, and then to my delight one of the sows lay down and fed the five young in front of me.
I would call that a joy, and if these creatures cause a bit of mess well, look at what the two legged variety do to the world. You only need look at BP and the oil spill to see what devastation man is causing to our planet.
Our four legged friends will never pose the threat to our future existence in the way that man seems to take for granted, borne from basic greed and hunger for money.
In conclusion, I would urge Mr Morgan to rethink. Why not use it as a PR opportunity, inviting people to view his cars for sale whilst having a chance to view something quite wonderful and elusive to most of the population – much better than being in a city with wall-to-wall traffic, people and pollution! As for taxpayers money to clean up behind them – I for one, as a taxpayer, would far rather see some of my taxes used to clear the verges after these animals have foraged rather than to throw money at buying methadone for the drug addicts that plague society.
If I recall Mr Morgan has suffered acts of vandalism and expense at Winner Garage in years, none of which were done by wild boar or any other woodland inhabitants. Think again Mr Morgan, they may churn up a bit of ground in their own backyard, but they do no real harm when compared to wanton vandalism and burglary.
We are Foresters, we live in a beautiful part of the country, surrounded by woodland. Can we not agree to exist side by side as it should be, accepting each other with all our habits however annoying?
I for one am happy and proud to do so. Why man feels the need to kill/cull/interfere all the time is beyond me. Let's embrace our glorious Forest and all who inhabit it, after all we are the fortunate ones to live here. – A proud Forester and wildlife lover (name and address supplied).
