IT'S a safe bet to say the latest donation to the Children's Opportunity Centre in Coleford has travelled the furthest.

Malcolm Williams set up casino evening for mates in the 16th Signals in Afghanistan.

The evening raised $500 – the dollar is the currency in use by Allied forces in Afghanistan – which converted to about £250 for the centre.

Malcolm who is originally from?Bream and is based in Germany, said: "My niece attended the centre and it was very good for her and I wanted to do something as a thank-you.

"A casino evening seemed a good way of getting everyone involved. We raised $500 which is the money we use out there."
