I AM writing to you regarding benefit madness.
Up to approximately four months ago I was in receipt of Jobseekers Allowance. Around that time, after having severe discomfort in my left hip, I consulted my doctor, who sent me for an X-ray. I then saw a orthopaedic consultant who informed me I had osteoarthritis. A MRI scan confirmed this.
I was informed I needed a total hip replacement. I was signed off by my GP as unfit for work. I then went on to Employment Support Allowance (same weekly amount as JSA).
After a few weeks I had to go for a medical assessment at Cedar House, Gloucester. In their wisdom, because I could carry out daily tasks such as picking things up, seeing, remaining conscious, hearing, speech, using hands, raising arms, plus many others with no relevance to my condition.
There were three questions related to my condition. Three out of 21 questions!
My employment support allowance was stopped. So back onto Jobseekers Allowance.
The madness is that I have been for a pre-op assessment. My surgery will be soon, therefore I won't be able to work until all is healed.
I was informed by Job Centre Plus that if I went for a job interview I would have to inform any potential employer of my medical situation.
What employer in their right mind would employ me knowing that!
PS: They didn't even contact my GP.
