A DINOSAUR proved simply ‘roarsome’ when it took over a town centre at a family fun day, wowing a huge crowd of children and even surprising bakery staff with a visit to Greggs!

The dino was the star of the show at Friday’s Festival of Animals Fun Day in Caldicot, alongside snakes, insects and even alligators.

Organised by the Caldicot Town Team, the day of attractions included a vast array of “beautiful, soft, fluffy, slimy, scaly and feathery friends” followed in the evening by a street market.

But the dinosaur proved the big hit, playfully almost clipping youngsters’ heads with his tail when spinning around as part of a special show, before going to the large crowd and saying hello personally.

The event also included a bug fest, crocodile and snake talks, donkey rides, creepy crawly encounters, alpacas, birds of prey, a petting zoo, children’s rides, a magic show, Punch and Judy, a balloon modeller and game stalls.

A Caldicot Town Team spokesperson said afterwards: “Wow! What a day!! A huge huge thank you to everyone that came out and visited our Festival Of Animals event yesterday and our Street Food Festival – the team have had an amazing, but very tiring day and we are so pleased that people seemed to enjoy themselves.

“Post your pictures and your videos, we will be creating a webpage collection of the day.

“Next event is our 999 Emergency Services Day at Caldicot Castle on Sunday, August 15. See you soon!”

People took to social media to say how much they enjoyed the event, Fiona Johnson of AJ The Confectionist posting: “What a fantastic day, completely enjoyed ourselves.

“Lovely to see the town busy, can’t wait for the 999 funday on 15th August. We will be there with our fudge and brownies thank you everyone.”

Mary Lewis added: “What a fantastic sight to see our town full of people enjoying themselves and all the children holding and interacting with the animals, absolutely brilliant, well done to you all.”

And Ro Davies added: “What an amazing sight, Caldicot really busy and children having fun while learning about animals and bugs. Well done Aaron Reeks and Caldicot Town Team.”
