I WOULD like to start by expressing my disbelief that people can seriously think it is right to try and take over something that is not theirs.

The main buildings at the Wilderness Centre are being maintained by live-in tenants which is just as well as I am sure this would have been the squatters' original intention to gain access into the main centre. However as this was not an option due to the building being occupied, the squatters have decided to gain access (by simply walking in of course) to out-buildings for residence but it's OK because they are claiming its for eco and educational reasons.

I understand there is a campaign to save the Wilderness by 'Friends of the Wilderness.' Fair enough they are going about it through the correct channels, therefore the difference being that 'Protect the Wilderness' think they have the right to ignore the law and take matters into their own hands!

They state for the community but where are they from? This area?

Or did they hear the centre was empty and decide it would make a great residence for them all but were not aware it was occupied ,so the next best thing was to walk into (locked) outbuildings. Clever – and don't have to pay a penny!

It frustrates me they can be left to use resources that do not belong to them and they do not and have no intention or means to pay for, where as the hard working and honest people of this community go to work and pay their bills.

It's about time the law was changed giving rights to land/property owners and the police to take action against people who do this! There is no justification! It's wrong, the property is not theirs and they have no right to do what they are doing.

They should have to get a job like everyone else and pay their way. In this case its clear they have just jumped on the bandwagon of someone else's campaign to suit their own needs.

I hope the council take action against the squatters to get them moved off the premises as I do not feel the intentions they have stated are genuine but just an excuse.

But I guess the question will be who will be next to have them as a hindrance and who will have to fork out to fight for what's right.
