BROCKWEIR cider-maker Keith Orchard is over the moon after winning a joint silver CAMRA award for his cider.

"I'm absolutely thrilled. It's the first award I have won," said Keith, who has been making cider in the Wyeside village since 2000.

"It is all made here in the village using local apples, some from Littledean and some from across the Severn in the Thornbury area where there used to be a lot of traditional orchards. I have replanted in some areas here to get the apples I need," he said.

After being made at Brockweir Keith's prizewinning Wye Cider goes off to specialist bottlers, and it is being stocked by more and more outlets including the village shop which he says is one of his best customers.

"I am particularly pleased about that because it keeps everything in the local community," says Keith.

The Campaign for Real Ale's National Cider and Perry Championships were held at the Reading Beer and Cider Festival over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Judges described Keith's cider as having a "delicate fruity aroma, followed by a clean dry taste with tannin evident and a pleasingly astringent finish. Very more-ish!".
