I AM sure many of your readers in the Lydney area are aware that I have been trying to help the schoolchildren cross Hill Street each morning and afternoon, entirely unofficially and voluntarily.

Gloucestershire council highways department assure me they are working on deciding whether or not to install a Pelican (light-controlled) crossing at this point, but it will take some time and possibly will not be installed until 2014.

In the meantime, many people have suggested that I apply for the 'Lollipop position.' This I have done but have been turned down. I have noticed a distinct lack of advertising for this position and would draw your readers' attention to this vacancy.

Come on Lydneyites, do a community service and get paid for it!
