A MID-season wobble has disrupted Bream's
charge for the league title. Having won their
first seven games, two on the trot were lost
and before the arrival of Saturday's gale the
Foresters were looking back ruefully on a disappointing
total of just 130.
Bream skipper Chris Farr reflected on the score
as 'par for the course' but probably 20 runs short
of what his team would have liked.
"I'm sure a score of 150 would have put us in the
driving seat. I thought the wicket let us down a bit
but we have slipped up a couple of times recently
and need to get back on course," he said.
"It's a mid-term hiccup. We were top of the
league for seven weeks but we have slipped back to
third.
" Last Saturday's game was important because
Oldlands were fourth. Credit to them, they bowled
very tidily. There was a lot of swing and they had
a good attack. We owed a lot to Dave Swiers and
Julian Thomas who enjoyed an excellent partnership.
Their efforts helped us to at least a competitive
total."
Swiers' contribution of 35 and a steady and
important 25 from Thomas took Bream
from a wobbly 70 for five to a much more
respectable total and Farr was looking forward
to the challenge before the rain swept
in.
He remains confident Bream will be major
contenders for the league title.
Meanwhile club members are making plans
for next year's 150th anniversary.
"There is much to do and we are looking for
help to organise a number of milestone events,"
he said.
