WITH reference to Bob Smyth's article on the work of the Royal British Legion and his visit to the HQ of the Lydney branch, he did not portray sufficiently, in my opinion, the great work of the Women's Section, albeit they have their own organisation and support their own National Benevolent Fund under the Patronage of the Queen Mother.
I would commend particularly the tremendous work of their secretary, Mrs Olive Kennedy, and treasurer, Mrs Maureen Thorne, for their great dedication under the chair of Mrs Ivy Coldwell, which he mentioned.
Their recent achievements have been the winning of the Kardynal Cup, for increased membership, second in the Berthon Memorial Cup.
Their Standard Bearer, Christine Wasley, was second once again in the County competition. They received a National Certificate for being second in the Jellicoe Cup Award.
Their work for the Poppy Appeal is paramount.
Thank you ladies. – A. Melville R. Watts, Patron, Lydney Branch RBL.
