AN EXTENSION to a Forest school was opened by the Bishop of Gloucester – on the day it discovered inspectors had rated it “outstanding”.
The new room at Newnham St Peter’s Church of England School is being used by the children in the infants school for a range of activities.
It was officially opened by the Bishop of Gloucester, Rt Rev Rachel Treweek, who said a prayer and cut a ribbon before being shown around.
She said: “I want to say a huge thank you for all the hard work that the school and the wider community have contributed and I hope you will go on contributing to this school.
“In our vision that we have developed for the next five years we say we want schools to be at the heart of our mission
“We want to see churches and schools working together as well as you do here. It is fantastic to see all that goes on between the school and the church here.
“What schools and churches can do together for the wider community is really exciting.”
Bishop Rachel congratulated the school on its “outstanding” rating in its recent SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools).
She said: “I’m told that today you received your SIAMS report and it is out-
standing. That is brilliant news for the school.”
