AN elderly couple who were found dead at their village home have been named by police.

The bodies of Jane and Richard Sergeant, aged 67 and 71, were discovered by police at their Orchid Meadow cul-de-sac home in Pwllmeyric near Chepstow early last Wednesday (October 4).

Mrs Sergeant had reportedly been living in a Newport care home and had been picked up the previous day by retired teacher Mr Sergeant.

An investigation has been launched, but officers are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.

"Sadly a 67-year-old woman and a man, 71, were found deceased at the house," said a Gwent Police spokeswoman.

"An investigation is ongoing to establish the events surrounding the incident but officers are not looking for anyone in connection with this."

It is understood that Mr Sergeant had picked up his wife to take her out for a day trip.
