BUS passengers waiting to travel to Gloucester will have a better chance of keeping dry in bad weather thanks to a new shelter.
The shelter at Bream Road in Lydney has been provided by the town’s county councillor, Alan Preest, from his allocation for highways improvements.
The shelter will be of particular benefit for residents of the nearby Goode Court sheltered accommodation.
Cllr Preest used some of his Highways Local allocation after being approached by Goode Court manager Carole Cousins.
She said: “I was at the community day in Bathurst Park organised by the police and I saw Cllr Preest and had a word about the shelter.
“A lot of our residents use the bus, not only to go to Gloucester but for getting to the doctors’ surgery in town.
“It’s not very pleasant waiting for the bus in the rain so the shelter will be a great help.”
Cllr Preest said a small shelter had been provided because the layout of the junction between Bream Road and High Street is due to be improved in the financial year 2018-2019.
He said: “We didn’t want to spend a huge amount of money on a larger shelter which would have to be dug up when the improvements are made to the junction.”
