A GROUP for people recovering from heart surgery or cardiac problems has received a funding boost.

Ian Watts Funeral Directors of Newport Road in Caldicot were voted the best business garden in a competition run by Caldicot Town Council.

The company was awarded a prize of £25 but decided to match the sum and present it to the Caldicot Rehabilitation Groups.

The groups comprise the Caldicot Heartbeat Club and the Heart-2-Heart group which meet every Monday and Friday at Caldicot Leisure Centre where members take part in cardiac rehabilitation exercise.

Each group has 45 members who are drawn from a large area including Chepstow and Sedbury.

Fundraiser Mr Tony Stephens said: “We are very grateful to receive local support from businesses to maintain our increasing costs every year such as rents, insurance and equipment servicing.”

Martin Watts of the funeral directors said: “Part of the money we donated had been awarded to us by Caldicot Town Council for having the best business garden.

“We were honoured to receive that award and we immediately decided we would match fund it and donate it to a local group.”
