SLIME making, maggot racing and a grisly display of medieval cures for the plague were among eye-popping showcases for prospective pupils and their parents at a school open evening.
Current students at the Dean Academy in Lydney brought their subjects to life with lots of fun and interactive activities
Inflating lungs and inspecting other organs from a dissection were some of the gruesome attractions on offer in the science labs, whilst in world affairs, history was brought to life by the plague cures.
There was also model making in the maths department, cooking demonstrations in food technology, energetic activities in the sports hall and an opportunity to sample food from the school menu in the restaurant.
Year 7 students Isobelle Jones and Ayden Le Roux bravely addressed the hundreds of parents and pupils who attended the event, recounting their first term experiences over the last few weeks at the academy.
Ayden said: “I have made lots of new friends and I am really happy here at the academy.
“I find the lessons challenging and the teachers are very helpful. I have already joined the sea cadets and am really excited about what lies ahead.”
School head Mr Tom Beveridge told those attending: “This is an important time for parents who have a really crucial decision to make regarding their child’s secondary education.
“The Dean Academy is a true community comprehensive and we are relentlessly striving towards becoming a school of choice for everyone in Lydney and the surrounding area.”
