GARDENERS can look forward to a talk by the award-winning author and RHS judge, Val Bourne about star performers for the herbaceous border.

Brockweir Hewelsfield and St Briavels Garden Society have invited the garden writer and photographer along to the Mackenzie Hall in Brockweir on Friday, May 10 to talk about 'first rate perennials'.

John Gooder who is the secretary for the society, said: "Val has been gardening for more than 30 years and it's fair to say that she has a vast knowledge about gardening. Val has a third of an acre garden to maintain herself so it's remarkable that she still finds time to write and talk about it.

"Val is particularly interested in hardy perennials and snowdrops and says that one of the secrets to successful gardening is choosing the best plants. Her talk will focus on some of the best doers in the garden, featuring 46 personal favourites and explaining why they are such good plants to grow."

The talk starts at 7.30pm.
