WITH typical New Labour spin, Tyler Chinnock would have us believe that Gordon Brown has created useful jobs in the NHS, police forces, fire services, etc. When the GMC's own statistics show that for every doctor there are three administrators in the NHS and our own Dr. Brain bewails the necessity of cutting police manpower, it is obvious where the extra 'jobs' have been conjured up.

Nearly every new bulletin features ward closures, operations cancelled at the last minute, all because of shortage of skilled staff. The level of reported crime is on the increase due to reduced numbers of police officers, and fire crews are depleted all over the country, all of which indicates the fallacy of New Labour's implications.

As for Tyler Chinnock's 'facts', my own were extracted from government sources and were thrown in Brown's face at a recent seminar. He accepted them without demur in his usual sullen, surly way but unlike his standard procedure, he did not dispute them or seek to blame others for them. The 'Times' is not a paper renowned for its accuracy.
