A 31-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested on suspicion of trying to rape a woman on a town street in the early hours of the morning.

Police have appealed for witnesses to the alleged attempted rape, which happened some time between 1.30am and 2.25am on Easter Monday (April 22) on the pathway near the Walford Road tennis courts.

A woman in her 30s sustained minor injuries in the incident and was left shaken, said a West Mercia Police spokesperson.

Detective Inspector Mark Peters said: "We take reports of this nature very seriously and a thorough investigation is underway while the victim is being supported by specially-trained officers.

"I would urge anyone who may have witnessed this incident or saw anything suspicious in the Walford Road area in the early hours of Monday morning to please come forward."
