So the powers-that-be have now decided that we need a 20 mph speed limit through Lydney. The notices which have appeared on some lamp-posts through the centre of Lydney, dated September 13, give everyone until October 4 to write and object (three weeks from start to finish?)
However according to the county council website: "The procedures for making Traffic Regulation Orders(TRO) are laid down by the Secretary of State and must be strictly observed by the county council. The process involves consulting with various stakeholders before a TRO may be implemented and normally takes a minimum of 6 months to process before an Order can be made."
The TRO also states that "Speeds on the proposal route are generally less than 20 mph."
Why, therefore, is GCC going to waste time and money implementing something that is not needed? Just how many new signs are going to litter the streets? What is the cost?
We are in the middle of a consultation regarding the bad air quality in Lydney. Would not all the extra pollution due to driving so slowly mean that the air quality will be made worse not better?
No doubt GCC like Forest of Dean District Council will ask for our opinions and do as they already have planned. I will however be sending in my objection so they will at least get one. Hopefully some who read this may feel that they too would like their opinion heard. Fingers crossed.
