MEET a very remarkable lady ...
Mrs Win Carr, of South Road, Lydney, can show a clean pair of heels to many people half her age as she sets about her weekly shopping in the town's Co-op store.
We caught up with Mrs Carr this week as she stocked up for an important date in her calendar – her 100th birthday!
"Mum shops in the Co-op on her own most days of the week but we do help out on a Friday when she does her main shop," explained her daughter, Mrs Renee King, of Orchard Close, Aylburton.
"She is very independent and really looks forward to her daily stroll to the shops. In fact she gets very annoyed if it is raining and she has to stay at home," said Mrs King.
Born in London, Mrs Carr came to live in Lydney in 1965. Her late husband Jim worked for 10 years at Lydney's Post Office and became quite well known round the town.
Mrs Carr will celebrate her big day this Friday with a party attended by her twin daughters – Mrs King of Aylburton and Mrs June Rae who lives in Scotland – with other family members and friends at Lydney's Watermead centre.
