A PUNCH described by his dad Bryan as "a peach of a left" has earned the Forest's only pro boxer Chris Higgs his third big-time win and the prospect of his second televised fight.

Higgs headed the bill on last Friday's first professional boxing night to be held at Cheltenham Town Hall for decades. He halted his more experienced opponent, Robin Deacon, from Crawley, Sussex, early in the third round.

"Chris coped well with a more experienced fighter," said Bryan.

"Deacon tried making it awkward by holding and was given a public warning in the second round. But Chris halted him with a straight right and finished it off with a peach of a left hook," he said.

Higgs, 21, is now expected to feature of a bill associated with Frank Warren and Keith Mayo at Swindon in June. There is a strong chance that once again the bout will be featured by Sky television.
