A series of significant road closures and traffic restrictions will take place across the Forest of Dean from late August through October.

It comes as Gloucestershire County Council confirms a wide‑ranging programme of resurfacing, utility repairs and essential maintenance. The works span multiple parishes, with several schemes affecting access for residents, pedestrians and emergency services.

In Woolaston, the council has ordered the temporary closure of part of the C7 Road between the A48 and Severn View. The 140‑metre stretch, running from outside ‘The School’ to Netherend Crescent, will be shut from Wednesday, August 26 until Friday, August 28 for resurfacing. Due to the nature of the works, emergency access will not be maintained.

Mitcheldean will see an overnight closure on Eastern Avenue, where Severn Trent will carry out repair works. The road will close from 9pm on Wednesday, August 26 until 5am on Thursday, August 27, with pedestrian and emergency access preserved.

In Lydney, a 50‑metre section of Mount Pleasant outside No.24 Ridler Road will shut for Severn Trent Water works on Tuesday, August 25 and Wednesday, August 26. The order may remain in force for up to eighteen months if required.

Drybrook will experience the most extensive disruption, with a rolling programme of resurfacing affecting Highview Road, Bents Lane, The Hollow, Baptist Way and Morgans Lane.

Closures will begin on Tuesday, September 8, with works expected to finish by Monday, September 14. No waiting or loading will be permitted, though pedestrian and emergency access will be maintained.

A separate overnight closure will affect Ley Lane in Westbury‑on‑Severn, where level‑crossing maintenance will shut a 700‑metre stretch from 11pm on Wednesday, September 9 until 5am on Thursday, September 10. Pedestrian access will not be maintained.

Cinderford will see a 100‑metre closure on the road between Foxes Bridge and Valley Road for BT Openreach works on Thursday, September 10, between 9am and 5pm.

The longest closure will take place in Ruspidge and Soudley, where a 70‑metre section of Lower Road will shut for bridge maintenance from Monday, September 7 until Friday, October 30. No pedestrian or emergency access will be possible.

Alternative routes will be signed on site. Further details are available from Gloucestershire Highways on 08000 514 514.
