CATWALK clothes don't have to cost the earth – as these fashion-conscious pupils from Chepstow School show.

Libby Taylor and Issy Smith will hit the catwalk at the school in a fashion show in aid of Care for Casualties, the regimental charity of The Rifles, whose first battalion is based at Beachley.

Issy (centre) scoured the Chepstow charity shops to put together her outfit while Libby (front) and fellow designers Abigail Sims (left) and Sharnay (right) came up with the idea of a recycled skirt.

The year seven pupils will be joined on the catwalk with students from across the school modelling designer gear from a number of Chepstow shops as well as a plastic bag challenge.

Local primary schools have also been involved with a design competition.

Libby said: "We thought of making a fan from old magazines but then we thought we could make a skirt.

"It took two or three days to make."

Issy gave herself a budget of £15 to put together an outfit including accessories.

She said: "I went to the charity shops in town and it was quite easy to get it together."

Learning coach Angela Jones, who is the organiser, said: "The vision is for a vibrant, energetic and entertaining showcase of local fashion

"It will involve our local primary schools via a design competition and will also engage our own students in a plastic bag challenge and a charity shop challenge so that they can participate, think about recycling and be creative all at the same time.

"We have already signed up All About Eve, Runway, Eden Rose, Herbert Lewis' Viva Couture, Scandia, and Tuttie Fruttie, we have the full support of 1 Rifles and Care For Casualties.

"The models' make- up and hair are being done free of charge by 'Just Gorgeous Wedding Hair and Make-up' "The event has been generously sponsored by Mabey Bridge and Monmouthshire Housing Association."
