A FUN day in Lydney on Sunday (June 11), organised by Team Scrums in preparation for their Relay For Life event, raised £1,200 for Cancer Research UK.
Team captain and one of the organisers of the event, Michelle Webley, said: “We had a lot of support from friends and local people, and the weather was lovely. It was an absolutely amazing day.”
Michelle added: “I lost my husband to cancer two years ago, as well as losing three uncles and my niece. I have a cousin who is fighting a brain tumour so this is a cause I feel strongly about.
“The fun day helps towards our target for the Relay for Life and I had a lot of support from my family in putting the event together, particularly my sister Joanne. We had all sorts of activities from hook-a-duck and a bouncy castle to face-painting for children.
“We had music from Raina and Andy Morse, Becky Preest and Sammy-Jo and the raffle was supported by a lot of Lydney businesses who donated prizes. There are too many to name them all, but they included Stoves and Flues, Martin’s newsagent, the Greyhound pub and Willowdean Gifts. We’d like to thank all of them for their support and to the burger van, which donated part of its takings.”
Team Scrums is made up of Lydney residents Sandra Webley-Murrell, James Murrell, Christine and Graham Gwilliam, Joanne, Kevin and Jessica Howard, Jane, Paul and Aaron Butler, Tom Bethell and Adrian Knight. They will be taking part in Lydney’s Relay for Life on June 24 at Dean Academy.
