I WAS shocked at the comments I received from some of the contributors to your letters page in last week's Review.
One of them insinuated that I was uneducated because I was Welsh. The writer must realise that in these days of political correctness, this sort of language could be thought of as racist and is not acceptable in any sort of debate, be it immigration or anything else.
Alan Preest was the only contributor who "got" the humour in my letter and I found his reply quite funny but he has been in local politics for a long time and knows how to respond to a letter like mine, i.e. answer humour with humour.
I must confess that, not having Alan's wit, I purloined my yarn from the Today programme on BBC Radio Four, which stated that only 25 Romanians and 17 Bulgarians migrated to this country in the month of January 2014, their figures not mine. The reporter said that airlines were actually complaining about their lack of passengers.
Various reasons were given for this, from the atrocious weather to a Christmas hangover. It seems that the most likely reason is that all those who wanted to come, were already here, beating the hapless Mark Harper to the punch before he could bring in his new rules aimed at limiting their numbers. We will see, as the months pass, how many more arrive
