MORE than 700 children took part in a giant "walking bus" along the roads outside Lakers School, Berry Hill.

Pupils from the school and Berry Hill under-fives playgroup joined the walk which is also an annual record-breaking attempt.

Among those taking part was Cathy Cook, whose older sister Melissa was knocked down and injured on the A4136 near the school.

She said: "We have been trying to break a world record and getting cars to slow down around the school."

Head teacher Alison Elliott said: "All Lakers' pupils and the Berry Hill under-fives took part which is more than 700 children and young people.

"We were also joining with thousands of others around the country to try and set a new record.

"It is also highlighting the need for cars to slow down when they are near the school."
