I WAS not surprised to read that the District Council had commissioned some professor, who suggested £50 million was needed to promote Forest tourism, and probably his fee is quite a large portion of that sum.

May I make some suggestions for free? Firstly, the roads in the Forest need maintaining and potholes filled in.

Local people know only too well where these holes are, so try to avoid them, but visitors may not appreciate such bumpy rides. This, of course, will be very costly but will benefit everybody.

Secondly, Forest footpaths are fast disappearing due to the loss of sheep and the wet spring, so need to be kept open, otherwise we will definitely need the treetop walkway that the professor suggested.

Thirdly, some summer weather is needed, but that would be priceless. – E. Tyrrell, Coleford.
