A LEAP in entries this year, saw a successful show for Soudley on Sunday (August 27) with more visitors and an increase in takings.
Chair of the organising committee Jan Ellis said: “Soudley Flower and Produce Show raised a sum in excess of £1,000 as compared with £800 last year, which will all go towards the upkeep of the village hall.
“A beautiful sunny day brought out the crowds for the show and visitor numbers were up as were the number of exhibitors: 56 people exhibited last year, compared to 70 this year. The number of exhibits was also way up, from 398 last year to 454 this year.
“The overall winner of the show and winner of the Stanley Joiner Rose Bowl was John Stacey, who also won the village cup for the vegetable and fruit Section.
Graham Drew was runner-up and also the winner of the White Horse Trophy for home-made wines.
“Joint winners of the Bevan Cup for the domestic section were Emma Hancock and Caroline Heyworth. Caroline, entering her first show since she was nine, also won the egg cup for the best eggs.
“The Ken Andrew Trophy for the floral section was shared three ways, with John Nelmes, Janet Willett, and Lisa Medcalfe-Woodward tying on the number of points. The floral judge, Alwyn Page, was very impressed by the high standard of the exhibits and obvious enthusiasm shown by the growers.
“Finally, the Soudley School Cup for the children’s section was won jointly by Anya Duberley and Florence Perkins, both previous winners.”
