I read through the letters page occasionally and have a quiet laugh at the attitudes displayed and wonder what planet some of the correspondents come from let alone whether they are Foresters.

As a Forester myself my best laugh recently was over 'Forest Menaces' leaping to the defence of deer. Everybody loves Bambi until he eats everything in your garden, wild boar, a foreign import, damage grassed areas and as for the grey squirrel, imported vermin damaging the Forest and driving out the native red squirrel.

I and many nature lovers would happily see every grey squirrel destroyed if it meant the return of the native red. – Mike Hook, Mitchel­dean.
