A GROUP of three people in the Forest have received the go ahead from the council to bring a family fun-filled festival to Lydney in July.

It will be the first time that Lydney will host a festival that main organiser Melissa Challener says "appeals to all ages."

After waiting a month for a decision, last week Lydney town council reached a verdict and gave the nod for the 'Lydney Scoot 'n' Jam Festival'.

The festival which is set for July 21 at the Lydney skate park will be raising money to buy a new jump box for the park.

Melissa who is from Lydney, said: "We are really excited about launching a family fun-filled festival in Lydney. The town is missing a community event that appeals to all age groups and I am hoping that people will get behind us. We have teamed up with Trevor from Lydney Music as well as Debbie at Scoot 69. There will be a scooter competition, a flash mob, lots of stalls and local bands playing live.

"We just want people to get into the community spirit and have a good time and hopefully the event will attract people from away to come along. We are raising money for a new jump box for the skate park which will cost approximately £9000. To raise funds we will be selling wristbands and asking local businesses for sponsorship.

"We are fortunate that David from Evolution skate park will show people what the new jump box will look like so that the public can see what we want to put the money towards. The event will be family-orientated and sure to have something for everyone."

Entrance is free. Event starts 11am-5pm. For more information contact Melissa on 07552907229.
