I AM a resident in the close proximity to the Rothdean Station Street site and fully support the Sainsbury's Supermarket proposal for Cinderford.
I am aware that Rothdean are vacating this site and moving onto the Forest Vale Industrial Estate, even if the Sainsbury's application is not successful. I have grave concerns that the premises will be left empty as I cannot envisage any other uses for the site, especially in the current financial climate.
The Rothdean Station Street buildings are already in a run down condition but if they were empty and run down I can only see this as negative and detrimental to the local residents. We already have the Old Railway Tavern on Station Street which is a good example of how an empty building soon becomes an eyesore, attracts anti social behaviour and generally brings the area down.
Cinderford town needs to regenerate and a supermarket on Station Street would be a good place to start.
