A MOONLIGHT walk on Saturday (October 6) saw 34 people take to the streets of Lydney to raise £624 for Cancer Research.

Organised by Richard Saunders, Nicki Trim and Emma Moore, all of whom work in the town’s Co-op store, the walk was part of the Forest of Dean Relay for Life (FDRL). Walkers set off at 10pm from the town centre and returned at around 11pm.

Nicki said: “Every year we get a team together and take part in the Relay for Life, to raise funds for Cancer Research, which is held at Lydney Leisure Centre. So I and my team thought we would do a moonlit walk around Lydney, because it’s never been done before, to fundraise ready for next year’s event.

“We started at 9.30pm with a speech from Rich Saunders, followed by a warm up from Claire Dewitt. We did a few warm-up exercises and even got a member of the public to join in.

“We then started the walk at 10pm around the streets of Lydney and around the boating lake, bucket collecting as we

went along.

Those taking part included a couple of children and even a puppy with a neon collar.

“The walk finished just after 11pm and we all went back to the Co-op where everybody was given goody bags, medals and certificates.

“Tesco provided the fruit for the goody bags and Co-op provided the water. I took the leftover fruit to the Christian Fellowship Church in Swan Road for their harvest festival the following day.”

Richard, who sits on the committee for RFDL, told the Review: “We are entering into year 15 of the FDRL and when one of our team leaders, Nicki Trim, came up with the idea of a 5K moonlight walk around the streets of Lydney as a fundraiser, much fun was had by all.

“Many of the 34 people who took to the streets, were lit up in neon colours.”
