WHAT a diverse bunch we are in this area. First of all we get letters complaining  about the  swarms of  refugees, coming and spoiling our lovely country and how they should go anywhere, so long as its not here.  Then we get the heart warming story of the ladies in Brockweir and their efforts to raise money to help the refugees.

Having said that, I  was a bit puzzled by Ruth Purcell’s letter  about the refugee crisis. She says the answer is not to take refugee’s in, but to  to “sort out the countries where these people come from, and send them back”.

We have been 10 years and lost a lot of lives trying to  “sort out”  Iraq and Afghanistan and ended up with the creation of  Islamic State, who are now  causing “these people” to run for their lives, from Syria.  Also the Taliban are as prevalent now, as they were before we invaded Afghanistan, so the Afghans are fleeing also.

It could be 20 years, before  Syria would be safe enough to repatriate the  refugees and in Afghanistan’s case, perhaps never.

What does  Ruth Purcell think we should do in the meantime?
