WHAT may influence the Wyedean students to demand a 30mph speed limit on the Wye bridge is that none of them drive.

There is a good path over the bridge and a bridge over the main road on the Sedbury side – so they do not need to walk on the road at all. Any speed limit would be in force 24/7 and twelve months of the year, not just the half hour that the students use it each day in term time.

There is nothing more frustrating than crawling along a wide, straight road because of a speed limit that does not make sense.

There is also a wide culture of disobeying speed limits so a 30 limit may not have much effect. How many campaigning for it now would be violating it in five years' time when they start driving.

If anything should be done to improve safety they should target those who ride bicycles on the path – especially as the road is wide enough to include a cycle path.

Incidentally – I do not own a car.
