YORKLEY Angling Club’s Jan Norris went the extra mile – or 20 – to raise much-needed funds for cancer charity Macmillan.
Jan, who is the club’s water bailiff, did a sponsored walk between seven angling lakes around the Forest.
And together with money raised by the annual George Bond Cup angling match – which is named in honour of Jan’s late father – the club raised £611.
Jan and other members of the club presented the cheque to Macmillan’s Forest fund-raiser Jemma Luker at its monthly meeting at the Broadwell Social Club.
Jan said: “The walk was hard but it was so worthwhile because Macmillan do such a wonderful job for people affected by cancer.”
She has been raising funds for Macmillan for some time as both friends and members of the club have been affected by cancer.
Last year Jan had her hair coloured pink and then she ‘braved the shave’ to raise £580 for the charity.
Her husband Dave said he was surprised by how quickly Jan got off the mark on the walk which kicked off at Cannop Ponds near the Speech House, the club’s ‘home’ lake.
Dave revealed: “Jan started off towards Lydney and I was checking licences on the lake and had a chat with a few people. I thought that I would catch up with her around Parkend, but she was already at the railway station in Norchard when I finally caught up with her.”
Intrepid Jan is already thinking of next year’s challenge and says that she would love to be able to swim Cannop Ponds.
“That would be fantastic but I’m not sure if the Forestry Commission would allow me to do it,” she said.
