HOUSE-HUNTERS looking for a quiet life may be interested in an unusual Wye Valley property that is go ing under the hammer.

The Grade II-listed 165-year-old Chepstow Cemetery lodge is currently owned by Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) and is up for auction next month.

The ecclesiastically styled, block-built carved stone faced cemetery lodge is being sold by Newport-based Paul Fosh Auctions with a guide price of £150,000 plus.

Auctioneer Paul Fosh said: “This lodge would appear to be the perfect period property for those looking to get away from noisy neighbours.

“The lodge was built in 1854, with more modern additions added in the 1960s and more recently.

“It is positioned at the entrance to Chepstow cemetery.

“Located off Mathern Road in the High Beech area of Chepstow, the property, probably once used by the cemetery sexton, has a large enclosed garden to the rear and a parking space to the side along with a conservatory.

“This quirky property has real potential and could be perfect for a Bristol commuter looking to benefit from the recent axing of the Severn Bridge tolls,” he added.

“The cemetery gates are opened and closed for public access at specific times in the day to allow access from the public tending to graves.

“A key for the gates will be supplied to the new owners on completion of the sale,” he said.

The property is included as one of 74 lots being offered for sale at Paul Fosh Auctions on Thursday, February 7.

The auction is taking place at The Park Inn Hotel, Llanedyrn, Cardiff, with the first lot going under the hammer at 5pm.
