THE bracelet given as a gift by the last German emperor Kaiser Wilhelm II to Newnham’s Lady Walburga Paget, sold at auction in Berlin for 10,000 Euros (£8,800).

Made by famous jewellers Wagner and Friedler, the bracelet is studded with 88 rose cut diamonds and 15 sapphires.

Lady Paget, one of Queen Victoria’s closest friends, came to live in Unlawater House off Newnham High Street in 1913 after the death of diplomat husband Augustus Berkeley Paget.

She lost her life aged 90 in 1929 when her clothes caught fire by the fire in the library. Lady Paget wrote several books and was one of the first to mention the hollow earth theory.
