CROWDS lined the streets of Monmouth as the coffin of Rifleman Jamie Gunn was taken to St Mary's Church.

Silent onlookers paid their respects to the man who had given his life in service of his country.

Jamie was just 21 when he was killed after an improvised explosive device hit the vehicle in which he and his team were travelling.

The young men who acted as bearers were Jamie's rugby team mates.

As they carried the coffin into the church the standard bearers' flags were lowered to half mast.

Family, friends and local dignitaries packed the church and others listened to the service from the churchyard.

Jamie's mother Janet, his father Mervyn, sister Jessica and friends Michael Griffiths and Sam Harding all gave moving tributes.

Following the service Jamie's coffin was taken to the Forest of Dean Crematorium and a firing party from the First Battalion the Rifles honoured their fallen comrade from the Beachley barracks with a 12-gun salute.

Jamie's mother Janet was presented with his cap and the Union Flag and the Last Post was played by a bugler.
