LYDNEY Air Cadets 614 Squadron headed to Portsmouth recently and stayed onboard HMS Bristol.

Lisa Hardiman, spokes­person for the group, said: “It may seem odd for air cadets to visit a naval dockyard, but there are many RAF pilots and staff serving on board ships. The Air Cadet Organisation, and in particular 614 Squadron, considers it important that the cadets have every opportunity to explore the many different roles available to them within the RAF.”

The group experienced life onboard ship following Naval traditions and visited ships and museums in the area. They went on a harbour tour where they saw the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious and other ships in the service.

Lisa added: “If you are interested in joining 614 Squadron, we meet on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings at Severnbanks School in Lydney.”
