A NEW map showing transport links around and through Chepstow has been launched.

The map, which is available free-of-charge around the town, was launched at a mini-transport festival organised by Transition Chepstow.

The festival also included vintage bus rides between Chepstow and Tintern, free bike checks and local groups including Pembroke Primary School's bike club and Better Trains 4 for Chepstow.

Transition Chepstow transport co-ordinator Jennifer Goslin said the group wanted to create a local map of routes for cyclists and pedestrians in context with larger routes such as the Wales Coastal Path and Offa's Dyke.

She said: "The aim is to provide information to enable people to walk or cycle safer and quieter routes and to use public transport."

The map also shows bus stops and distances between various landmarks around the town.

Members of the Transition Chepstow mapped the routes and took photos of the paths to show their condition.

Among the highlights of the event was the appearance of a 1949 Red and White double-decker which regularly ran the route from Gloucester through the Forest of Dean to Chepstow and Cardiff.

The Guy Arab vehicle was restored in Cinderford in 2003 and is currently owned by Mr Ken Davies, a former Red and White driver, and his wife Shirley who worked as a conductor on the buses.
