A WOMAN who penned an entry that plucked at our heart-strings here at the Review, enjoyed a meal for two after winning our Valentine’s competition.

Rose Janes and husband of 43 years, Brian, from Monmouth enjoyed a meal at The Butchers Arms in Clearwell with the £50 voucher they received to spend with one of our advertisers.

We were won over by Rose’s tale of a love that nearly wasn’t, when she thought Brian had forgotten her on Valentine’s Day in 1974. In fact he had taken inspiration from Cadbury’s Milk Tray adverts at the time and hidden a large bunch of flowers and, of course a box of chocolates, in her mum’s car, ready for her commute to work the following day. The rest, as they say, is history.

Rose had told us: “We have now been married 43 years and unfortunately Brian is no longer romantic, but maybe it’s my turn to surprise him by being the winner of this competition and hopefully treating him to a slap up meal.”

The couple were snapped enjoying their meal by staff at the restaurant on Sunday, February 24.

Rose said: “Many thanks for selecting me as the winner of your Valentine Competition. Brian and I enjoyed our lunch courtesy of the Review at The Butchers Arms in Clearwell.”
