DESPITE the dismal weather those who braved Parkend Carnival managed to make a splash at this year's event.
Many stall holders and entertainment acts cancelled last minute as the sports field became muddy from the continual downpour.
Carnival committee member, Geraldine Brown said the event turnout was a "disaster" and takings were down by a quarter on last year.
She said: "The gate collection was down £3,500 on last year – we're lucky to have made £2,000 overall, which is awful as we usually raise near £8,000. Although we must thank the continued loyalty of those who turn up to the carnival every year, whatever the weather!
"The Pandemonium Band was amazing and played most of the afternoon while the fire eaters and stilt walker were popular. We have already been asked by Lydney Boxing Club to pencil them into the diary for next year's event, so I guess next year we will come back fighting!"
The first and second prize winners of the heavy goods lorries were Wyesham Social Club and Parkend Primary School who picked up £250 and £200 respectively.
Fairy Garden won first prize in the light vehicles category with £125, Little Miss Muffett Harvey came second and won £100, and Dial-a-Ride came third and won £75.
A 1946 Hudson Commodore came first in the decorated car category and drove off with £50. Geraldine added: "Entry numbers were down but the floats that did enter were fantastic."
