ELDERLY residents at a care home are celebrating the power of hugs after a visit from nursery children.

Cherry Tree Care Home in Caldicot shared the love with residents, team members and relatives on their ‘Hug Day’ celebration.

Residents and visitors to the residential and nursing care home on Newport Road gathered to hug it out at the care provider’s annual company-wide event, which encourages physical interaction and celebrates the comfort that a simple hug can bring.

And in the style of TV’s Old People’s Home for 4-Year-Olds, the home received a visit from children from Little Tigers Day Care Centre who spent time with the residents and enjoyed a sing-a-long to songs such as You Are My Sunshine and Wind the Bobbin Up.

Cherry Tree lifestyle team leader, Linda Jenkins, said: “Hug Day was made extra special this year because of the amazing effect the nursery children from Little Tigers brought to the day.

“You could just see the emotion in the residents faces, they just lit up.”

Little Tigers manager, Pam Curtis said: “What a wonderful opportunity to come and visit the team and residents at Cherry Tree Nursing home.

“The children thoroughly enjoyed their morning and by the residents’ faces, so did they. After all, everybody loves a hug.”
