THE driver of this car was just feet from death on Tuesday morning after it had crashed and rolled almost to the top of the steep drop that leads down from Forest Road, just north of Lydney.

The driver, said to be a 29 year old from the Whitecroft area, was treated by paramedics for neck and head injuries which were later treated at Gloucester Royal Hospital, but he was later discharged.

The accident was reported to the ambulance service at 5.35am on Tuesday morning, and the attending paramedics also notfied the police, who registered the incident, then sealed the immediate area off with tape and 'police aware' notices.

The car, a silver Peugeot 206, was extensively damaged, with the roof pressed down almost to the bottom of the windows, and both front and rear ends also suffering extensive damage.

But as the crumple zones had done what they were designed to do, and the airbags had deployed, they gave the driver an amazingly lucky escape.

Drivers coming into Lydney on Tuesday morning were considerably held up as other drivers stopped to record the scene on their mobile phones.
