THE ANNUAL celebration of all things apple in Chepstow was a success.

Hundreds of visitors headed to the Drill Hall on Sunday to eat, drink, press and identify various forms of apples.

There were experts on hand to put names to mystery fruits from people’s gardens and for those who fancied a challenge there were apples to identify.

Organiser Ned Heywood said: “It’s been a very successful apple day and many people have contributed to that.”

Among those enjoying the taste of success was nine-year-old Herbie Perry who not only won the children’s apple identification quiz with 13 out of 15, he also came third in the sweet section of the cookery competition with mini apple pies.

The competition was won by Becky Newton and Julie McTaggart was second while Pam Robinson won the savoury competition.

As well as the apple displays there was also entertainment from the Chepstow Singing Club.

Around half a tonne of apples were sold during the day.
